Military Blessings

My son's military medals accumulated over 12 years of service.

When four commercial jet planes crashed on 9-11 of 2001 due to an ACT OF WAR upon the United States, I knew that the life of my family could or would change. My oldest son was in the Army National Guard. At that time he had been serving for only two years.

A succession of events occurred to my son: 1) he spent a year in Army uniform at a commercial airport doing security; 2) his training greatly intensified and became more serious; 3) he spent several months in New Orleans after Katrina; 4) and he spent a year in the Middle East. There have been other serious assignments, including service on a state sponsored Honor Guard, where he served at many military funerals.

All of this happened to a fellow who thought he was merely a part-time soldier.

Fortunately for him, during this time of national crisis he found (actually re-found) the gospel. He was (and still is) a rough and tough soldier, but he found instead the power of prayer.

Then, his life REALLY started to change.

He REALLY studied the scriptures (and still does). He was ordained an Elder. He received his Patriarchal Blessing. He went on "splits" with the missionaries. He obtained his Temple Recommend and then his endowments. After, and only after, did he meet the girl of his dreams, and they were married in the Nauvoo Temple. She was a returned missionary.

The blessings continued to pore in. Soon, my son and his wife had a beautiful baby girl, my first grandchild. And, that baby is TRULY beautiful.

As his knowledge of the gospel grew (somewhat exponentially), his Stake appointed him to serve as an LDS Institute Instructor.

I look upon all the military medals he has earned. They are wonderful. They remind me of the price of freedom. And, then, I look upon my son's life in the gospel of Christ and realize that the "medals" in that domain are TRULY infinite.

Thanks for the great article. I liked the comparison of military metals to the eternal metals and blessings we receive from our loving Heavenly Father as we keep His commandments and live righteously.

HAPPY GUY FAWKES DAY!!

Yes, I think he probably was some kind of relative. That is the rumor in my family, anyway.

"Faux" is simply an alternate spelling of "Fawkes." My relatives are English, and I am proud of it.
